Alive and Kicking (1985) by Simple Minds

“Alive and Kicking” by Simple Minds is the first song I wanted to listen to over and over and over again. The Scottish band is best known for “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” from “The Breakfast Club.”  However this is the song that really struck me when I first heard it on the radio as a child. There’s something about lead singer James Kerr and Robin Clark’s voices that made me soak it in.

Not to mention the music itself!  You can hear the synthesizer in there but it doesn’t overpower the song like other tracks from that era.  This is very much a band with drums, guitar, bass and keyboards; but they all work together in harmony.  I’m still not 100% sure what the song is about and don’t really want to know.  This song is magical and that’s the only thing that matters.
