Christmas was fabulous and I was chilling it into the New Year but it’s time to get my booty back on track…again. Sunday was devoted to chores and resting up for Monday’s workout which was the Total Tone 360 workout from Holly Perkins’ Fitness 360 DVD. My arms were still a bit sore from my pull-up attempts, so I’ve decided to take up my 5lb dumbbells for this strength training exercises. That went really well so I followed up with Yoga Energizer to stretch my muscles and round out the half-hour. Time got away from me on Tuesday and it was far too late for me to run, so I did the Yoga Energizer workout again but this time with my sister for company. That’s always fun and we hung out having planking contests afterwards. We weren’t even close to George Hood’s achievement but it was still something worth mentioning.
On Wednesday, I finally got my act together and took to the treadmill. I aimed for an interval run alternated with walking and covered two miles in just under thirty minutes. At one point I increased the elevation from 2.0 to 6.0 for an added challenge during the final walk. Although there won’t be any elevation changes on the road or race course, I add them to the treadmill sessions in order to toughen up. I changed my stride for a couple minutes and probably confused the Nike+ Running app because it gave me an extra 0.4 miles. However, I didn’t stop until the treadmill read 2.000 miles. Afterwards, I put up the Iron Gym Xtreme Workout Bar for assisted chin-ups, wide grip pull-ups and then on the floor for push-ups and dips. I didn’t push myself as hard as the last time. It was a combination of chickening out and being wary of straining myself. That’s why the step stool is always nearby to make sure I have support.
The next day was a welcome return to my Fitsugar videos firstly with Bikini Abs with Teddy Bass, then Tank Top Arms with Holly Perkins and finally Flow Yoga with Ursula Vari. By the end of this half-hour session, I was sweaty and using all of my lung capacity. It felt really, really good. Once again, I used the slightly lighter weights for the arms exercises. However, for the triceps extensions I held both dumbbells instead of just one. That combined 10lbs of resistance was one heck of a challenge but I’m happy to do that from now on. Perhaps I should have done a cool down video afterwards, but I just wanted to hit the shower. I’ve been keeping up with my veggified meals but didn’t drink nearly enough water today. That’s something I’ve got to work on especially since the weather has been unusually warm. Working out isn’t nearly as effective unless coupled with proper meals, sufficient hydration and peaceful rest. In this case, ‘two out of three ain’t bad’ but isn’t nearly good enough. No retreat, no surrender and no excuses! (My Fitness Revolution: Days 436 to 440)
