Today’s task in the Midsection Makeover was thirty minutes of cardio. A simple matter except that the lower half of my body is stiff and sore. This is going to sound all kinds of wrong, but sore is good. It means that my muscles were pushed to and beyond their limits; and when they stop being sore, they’ll be stronger than they were before. During the Thirty Days of Lunges program, I was sore and sorely wondering about the point of it all, but then I started running faster than ever, without realising it. Lesson learned, Holly Perkins. I headed to the treadmill for a brisk walk. It wasn’t easy at first because my legs hurt. I adjusted my gait to stretch a bit more, and tried to get to my usual speed of 3.0. This was a bad move because my left calf was in a ridiculous amount of pain.
It was incredible. I felt every single muscle from my buttocks down to by ankles. Eventually, I lost myself in the music and gradually increased the speed to hit 3.0 by the end of thirty minutes. The stiffness was still merciless and I hobbled along to a comfy chair, to listen to music. House of Pain’s Jump Around was playing and my nephew encouraged me to jump. I encouraged him to jump in a lake and then put on Clocks from Rhythms del Mundo Cuba to change the mood. After a while, I crawled to the shower and went looking for painkillers after dinner. As long as I’m lying down or standing up, all is well. Things get iffy when I have to bend anything. I slathered on some Arnica Gel but only got very temporary relief. The weird thing is that I’m bothered that it’s just my legs. I think that I’ll be hurting all over quite soon. Is it weird that I’m looking forward to that? Mañana. No retreat, no surrender and no excuses! (My Fitness Revolution: Day 529)
