My Fitness Revolution Day 274

It was about 2:00 pm (EST) when I took the chance to go outside for a run.  The sun was beating down but I couldn’t be bothered.  I set the Nike+ Running app with Week 5 of Robert Ullrey’s C25K podcast and took off.  The plan was to go back home if it was too hot but I didn’t feel it.  There was hardly any traffic or distractions (dogs, kids, etc.) so I kept my focus fairly well.  This first stage of the podcast features three five-minute run intervals with three-minute walks between them.  My running pace was about 9:32 (min/mile) and I found it quite comfortable.  I’ll be glad to progress to the second stage next time.  The heat didn’t really affect me until the cool-down walk but by then, I was on my way home.  The app stopped working at one point but restarted without hassle, so my stats are divided into two parts.  Its dodgy behaviour has been an excellent deterrent to keep me from fussing over my pace.

The body achieves what the mind believes

At home, I sat down for about fifteen minutes and rubbed my calves.  They were stiff and on fire.  When the pain subsided, I completed the Arm Circuit with Holly Perkins, using 5lb hand weights throughout.  The Resistance Tube is great for 45° Bicep Curls and Wide Upright Rows but very strenuous.  So much so that it makes the other movements almost impossible to do.  I’ll use it for other routines instead.  My calves still hurt and I happened to notice another Holly video called Sports Cool Down for runners.  It wasn’t difficult and her instructions were very clear.  In addition, she explained the benefits of each movement.  By the end, my pain was almost completely gone except for the usual tingles.  This is definitely going to be part of my post-run routine.  I’m very happy that the outside run is improving.  No retreat, no surrender and no excuses!
