My Fitness Revolution: Days 183 to 189

I can’t believe it’s already been a week since I started this new workout regime.  There is a lot less muscle stiffness, because of Absorbine Jr.  To plagiarise the Buckley’s slogan a bit: it smells awful but it works.  I missed Day 184 because of an emergency.  All’s returned to normal, so the workouts resumed with Miss Jane on Days 183, 184, 186 and 188.  I started on Week 2 of Robert Ullrey’s C25K podcast on Day 187.  It was challenging but not impossible.  To be honest, I had planned to repeat Week 1 but synced my iPod Touch and forgot to make sure that the first podcast remained.  Clearly Father God has my back, and will make sure that I don’t start to wimp out again.  I forgot to mention that I wear my 1lb wrist weights when I run.  In addition, I still complete arm movements that utilise the 2lb hand weights.  This isn’t part of Mr. Ullrey’s program but it feels good and looks pretty good too; as the photo shows.  Yes, that’s me.  Not brave enough to turn around but maybe in a few months.  Who knows?

Sometimes we go on autopilot during our meals and just try to clear the plate.  That’s why portion control is of the utmost importance.  Large meals coupled with intensive routines will make us bulk up.  That may be great for linebackers but not so much for ladies.  Optimum fitness is my goal, but I’m already short.  I don’t need to be round.  My breakfast is now an apple or cup of orange juice if there’s no fresh fruit available.  Maybe followed up with a simple sandwich or mini-croissants with Nutella.  Rice is my daily staple, so I started to have one-third or half the usual amount.  If I’m still hungry, then I could always get more.  It’s better to have smaller meals spread throughout the day is better than three big ones.  We can and should snack but make smarter choices.  Choose fruit and nuts instead of cookies and chocolates.  Boil corn with pepper and cilantro for a tasty kick, instead of butter.  There are many, many options available for us.  It’s our responsibility to make careful, informed choices.  No retreat, no surrender and no excuses!
