My Fitness Revolution: Days 217 to 221

I don’t know when it happened but somewhere over the past week, I turned back into one of those people.  You know the kind, those folks who can’t go for a single day without a workout.  It’s not so much an obsession as a welcome respite from a hectic life.  Whether I’m on the treadmill or following a recording, I don’t think about anything else.  It’s blissful and works wonders for my mental state.  In addition to getting my fitness groove back, there was a minor setback in the form of sinus trouble.  This was the very definition of blind-sided because I haven’t had to deal with a drippy nose in years.  I knew exactly when it was triggered on Day 219, as I was about halfway through Day 2 of Week 6 of the Robert Ullrey C25K podcast.  My family convinced me to rest on Day 220, but I was back at it on Day 221.  You see, I had busted the two-mile barrier and didn’t want to lose momentum.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t accomplish Day 3’s goal of a twenty-five minute continuous run.  It wasn’t a total failure, since I had managed twenty minutes but it sucked tremendously to know that I had tapped out with only four minutes to go.

MP900341360 Woman RunningOn Day 218, I completed The Jane Fonda Workout Record (1982) which has been really good for flexibility.  The Legs routine is really tough but I’ve noticed a reduction in muscle soreness (and liniment use) lately, and believe that it’s because of those stretches.  God bless Miss Jane!  The Arm Circuit with Holly Perkins from FitSugar has been great for strength building.  It’s not easy but I’m looking forward for the day when those 5lb hand weights feel like nothing.  For now, my plan is to make a second, successful attempt at the twenty-five minute run on Day 223.  I’ll have to plan better for it.  That means eat better, drink more fluids and mentally prepare.  There was a deeply satisfying sense of accomplishment to complete the twenty-minute run.  Like Neville Longbottom in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, I felt like I could spit fire.  There’s no turning back now.  No retreat, no surrender and no excuses!
