My Fitness Revolution: Days 228 to 234

MP900337325 DumbellsAfter a seemingly endless amount of irritation and annoyance, my sinus troubles have finally gone away.  It didn’t hamper the schedule much, although Day 232 I took an unplanned rest.  Week 7 of the Robert Ullrey C25K podcast has proven to be quite a challenge.  Not so much physically as much as a mentally.  My sister, who works out with me, observed my form and said that I didn’t seem to be having difficulty during the session.  However, my mind was in a fair amount of turmoil.  Once I maintained proper posture and breathing, the treadmill sessions were quite good.  However, In order to fight the heavy temptation to slow down or stop, I had to keep reminding myself that I was actually doing well.  My legs didn’t hurt, so why should I stop?  I wasn’t fatigued, so why should I slow down?  Sometimes, we have to battle every fibre of our being in order to accomplish our goals.  I never thought I could run like this, with thought being the operative word.  My Sensei told me that I would be a better kick boxer if I built up my stamina with running.  I flatly refused and presented every excuse in the book.  It wasn’t because I couldn’t but because I wouldn’t, and I wouldn’t because of that persistent, negative thought.  That fear to venture beyond my comfort zone.  It’s a little known fact that sometimes that kind of comfort could destroy us because we wouldn’t leave it.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. ― Frank HerbertDune

On Day 233, I experimented with a combination workout.  I started out with The Jane Fonda Workout Record (1982) for the Warm Up and Arms.  Then completed the Arm Circuit with Holly Perkins and went back to Miss Jane for the Waist exercises.  Instead of continuing with her Leg routine, I ran just over a mile on the treadmill before finishing off with the rest of Miss Jane’s Workout.  It was invigorating which manifested itself as debilitating pain in my calves, but nothing a little lot of Biofreeze Pain Relieving Gel couldn’t alleviate.  The only thing with the combination workout is that I didn’t get the same flexibility training that I do with Miss Jane, but it would have been a bit too much to do them and run.  However, it’s something I’ll definitely keep in mind for the days when I’m maintaining level of fitness rather than trying to achieve one.  In the meantime, the regularly scheduled program has resumed.  Days 228, 230 and 234 were the usual non-running day workouts, and the treadmill sessions are in the table below.  I was happy to find that my ‘old’ workout gear fits me again.  My heart and wallet are very happy about that.  No retreat, no surrender and no excuses!
