My Fitness Revolution: Days 241 to 244

This has been one heck of a week.  I began Week 9 of the C25K podcast on Day 244.  There haven’t been any rest days and I don’t plan on taking any until Day 249.  That will be the glorious day when I celebrate the end of the C25K podcast…then start another one.  What?  This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody.  At this time, it takes me forty-one minutes to traverse 2.568 miles.  Ten of those minutes are spent walking: five for the warm-up and five for the cool-down.  That’s fine and dandy for training but won’t cut it in a race.  That’s something my body will have to learn which means train, train and train some more.  My friends who run are wonderful.  They’ve worked hard to get to their level and give me nothing but inspiration along with golden nuggets of wisdom.  We can read books, magazine and articles on the internet but nothing beats honest answers from a trusted source.

Okay, you looked at the post’s title and wondering what happened on Days 241 to 243?  Nothing bad, I assure you.  On Days 241 and 243 I completed my usual non-running routines with The Jane Fonda Workout Record (1982) and Arm Circuit with Holly Perkins using 5lb weights.  Actually, I do the Arm Circuit every day but use 3lb weights on the running days.  It gives me a chance to squeeze them with a firm grip as Holly advises.  When I use the heavier set, my main goal is to just do the reps as opposed to anything fancy.  It hasn’t been all triumphs and glory.  I did try to start my running part of the treadmill session at a speed of 4.2 but it was exasperating, so I settled on 4.0 but will start at 4.1 the next time and hopefully creep up.  I know it shouldn’t but my ‘slow’ pace is an irritation.  It’s faster than I ever thought myself capable but not where I want it to be.  No retreat, no surrender and no excuses!
