My Fitness Revolution: Days 99 & 100

These past two days couldn’t have been more different.  I didn’t do a thing for Day 99 except watch the clock, as exercise time slipped away from me.  However, I did get a lot of sleep which I was sorely lacking this week.  Central Florida’s weather has been bizarre lately.  Here we are in February with days of blazing sun, high temperatures and balmy nights.  Then the cool winds will blow and our bodies seize up in conflict.  This is no way to get over a cold.  However, that hasn’t stopped me from trying and today I reached a milestone.  After much sweat, tears and Absorbine Jr. my fitness revolution is into triple digits!  Today (calendar duly marked) was glorious Day 100 and celebrated in true fitness revolutionary style with a full workout.  That’s right, the full enchilada and it was excellent.

100 days

There were stretches and a couple minutes of jump rope, then half-hour on the treadmill with the full complement of five separate arm movements.  Even the iPod Touch was co-operative and shuffled one really good song after another.  It was warm but I still wore a jacket, so the sweat was flowing like a slow tap.  Then it was onto the floor exercises, starting with some relaxation stretches and twenty Trunk Rotations.  Then one hundred Quarter Crunches and twenty Twisting Crunches before the great achievement of the night – the Halasana yoga pose.  I’ve been trying this since Day 1, with great difficulty.  However, it is appropriate that today I should celebrate one milestone with another.  Not only was the pose easy to do, but there was no pain.  I was so happy that I could have cried.  My inability to do the Halasana was an earmark of how unfit I had allowed myself to become.  Now that I could do it again, is God’s little way of showing me that I’m on the right track.

From the Halasana, there were twenty modified Jack Knife exercises.  Then a few other stretches to keep the muscles loose.  Finally, there were consecutive four GI Jane push-ups with bars.  When doing push-ups, it is very tempting to achieve the upright position using your legs and thighs, rather than your arms.  I was guilty of this for a long time, but I can assure you that these four were purely on arm power and nothing else.  Otherwise, I would have pushed for five but that would have involved cheating.  Self-delusion is how I got into this dumpy state in the first place.  That would be doubly harmful by lying to you.  I can’t wait for tomorrow when we start Day 101.  No retreat, no surrender and no excuses!
